As a consequence of questioning the status of anthropological discourses in Thoreau and Reclus, and their common sources in Humboldt, the operation of a complex repartition appears, between what seems a resurgence of the Noble Savage, and a genuine yearning for a kind of knowledge that should overcome ethnocentrism; which in itself is enough to wash them clean of a suspicion of “Romantic Projection,” or worse even, mystification. By making their thought spring from individuals and the entire Human Kind, they herald a polyphonic knowledge of the world.
